How to send ChatGPT four pages of notes as one upload on the free plan
The short version
The free ChatGPT plan counts uploads as files, not pages: three a day. Shoot four pages in Instagram's Layout mode, save the picture and attach it as one file, so four pages use one upload instead of four. In a test, ChatGPT read all four pages from that one picture.
The steps
- Instagram → + → Story → Layout on the left. Shoot your pages one by one: four photos become one picture.
- Don't post it. Tap Save at the top of the screen (Download on Android) and close the story.
- ChatGPT → + → attach that picture. It's one upload, not four.
- Check the pages were read with the first message (below).
- Then ask by text: everyday text chats aren't limited on the free plan the way file uploads are.

How it was tested
I put four printed A4 pages (12 pt, 1,200 to 1,450 characters each) into one 1080 × 1920 picture and sent it to ChatGPT on the free plan. It named the topic and the homework of all four pages, and when asked what item 12 says on each page, word for word, it got four of four.
Questions people also ask
How many files can I upload to ChatGPT a day for free?
According to OpenAI's Help Center, free users are limited to three file uploads a day, and OpenAI may lower the limit during peak hours. A photo counts as a file.
When does the upload counter come back?
About a day later: in my test ChatGPT said to try again after the same time the next day, 24 hours after the first upload in the window.
Where is Layout mode in Instagram?
In the Instagram app: Create → Story → Layout on the left. The Russian app calls it «Коллаж». The mode exists only in the mobile app.
Why not put the pages into one PDF?
On plans other than Enterprise a PDF is read by its digital text, not by its page images, so a PDF of photographed pages isn't an equal substitute for one picture.
Are normal chats limited on the free plan?
OpenAI's FAQ says free users have unlimited everyday text chats, subject to abuse-prevention safeguards; file uploads, image generation, voice and data analysis have separate limits.
