How often should you post on Instagram?

Short answer

Instagram sets no required number. Its creator FAQ calls posting frequency one factor of many and says the creators with the greatest net follower growth post, on average, 10 or more reels a month. It also says to share reels or feed posts consistently. The caps you may meet are a separate matter: the app’s scheduler takes 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead, and Instagram’s API takes 100 in a 24-hour moving period.

What Instagram says about frequency

On its creator FAQ, read on 11 October 2026, Instagram answers “What is the optimal number of reels I should share to grow?” with two things. The frequency at which you post new reels is one factor of many. And among the creators with the greatest net follower growth rates, Instagram sees that on average they post 10 or more reels a month.

Read for what it is, that is:

  • An observation, not a target. It describes a group of creators. It gives no minimum and no maximum, and it does not say the posting caused the growth.
  • About reels. For photos and carousels, the FAQ says that consistently sharing feed posts or carousels helps you engage your audience, which can boost the distribution of your content. For video it says the most effective way to grow followers is to consistently create engaging reels, because reels are the best way to reach new audiences.
  • Silent on Stories. None of the pages we read gives a number for Stories.

The same FAQ says to experiment with different approaches to find what works best for you. Instagram’s announcement of its in-app best practices, dated 1 October 2024, says that destination has a Creation section with guidance on how often to post, with personalized tips. That guide is inside the app and is personal to each account, so we could not read it and do not repeat it.

Counting your own posts

Instagram’s insights page gives you the other half of the comparison. The overview in the app shows Views, Interactions, New followers and Content you shared. The time frame drop-down at the top takes a preset or a custom range within the past 90 days, and Content you shared is the number of stories, reels or posts you posted in that range. Tapping under a content type opens the content library, which can be filtered by media type, reach, interactions and time frame.

So Instagram’s monthly figure can be set against your own account. Ten reels a month is 10 in a 30-day range, or 30 across the 90 days the dashboard can show. Whether your account behaves like the group Instagram describes is something its pages cannot tell you.

Limits are a different thing

Two numbers are easy to mistake for advice on how often to post. They are ceilings, and they apply to different routes.

Publishing through Instagram’s API, which scheduling tools use100 API-published posts within a 24-hour moving period; a carousel counts as one postMeta for Developers, updated 30 June 2026

Meta’s page adds that an app which lets people schedule posts should enforce the 100 limit itself. Neither is a recommendation to post that much.

Does posting a lot cost you anything?

None of the pages we read for this answer says that posting more often lowers the reach of your other posts, or cautions against it. The one line about volume is in the ranking explainer: in Feed, Instagram says it tries to avoid showing too many posts from the same person in a row. That concerns what one viewer sees. It is not a limit on what you may post.

Planning a rhythm with Mellow Hub

Hub does not recommend a frequency. You choose a date and a time for each post, and a post can go to Instagram together with other networks. What you can plan ahead is yours to decide; the ceilings above are Instagram’s. Hub’s cabinet shows, for each published post, the views and likes the network reports, which you can set against the number you posted.

The first 3 posts are free, however many networks each one goes to, and need no card. After that Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo), where one publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five toward it. There are no automatic overage charges.

Questions people also ask

How many times a week should I post on Instagram?

Instagram gives no weekly number. The only figure on the pages we read is monthly and about reels: creators with the greatest net follower growth post 10 or more reels a month on average, which Instagram describes as one factor of many.

Is 10 reels a month the minimum?

No. Instagram presents it as an average among creators with the greatest net follower growth, not as a minimum or a target, and says posting frequency is only one factor of many.

How often should I post Stories?

The Instagram pages we read give no number for Stories. Instagram’s help page on scheduling lists reels, photos and carousel posts, and Stories are not named there.

How many Instagram posts can I schedule?

In the app, up to 25 posts a day and up to 30 days ahead, for a public account. Through Instagram’s API, which scheduling tools use, the limit is 100 API-published posts in a 24-hour moving period, and a carousel counts as one.

Can I post too often on Instagram?

None of the pages we read says so, and none gives a number to stay under. Instagram does say its Feed tries to avoid showing too many posts from the same person in a row, which concerns what a viewer sees.
