How do you have multiple Instagram accounts?

Short answer

Add each account in the Instagram app, then switch between them without logging out. On a phone, open your profile, tap the menu, scroll to Add account and log in to the other account or create a new one. Instagram’s help says you can have up to ten accounts logged in at one time. Someone helping you run an account doesn’t need its password: Instagram’s shared access lets you invite them to post from it.

Adding and switching, from Instagram’s help

From Instagram’s Help Center, read on 10 October 2026. On an iPhone or Android phone:

  1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then the menu in the top right.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Add account.
  3. Tap Log in to existing account, enter the other account’s username and password, and tap Log in.
  4. To create a new account instead, tap your profile name at the top of your profile, then Add Instagram account, then Create new account. Enter a profile name. Instagram offers to add it to your Accounts Center; choosing Create password instead keeps it out.
  5. To switch, go to your profile, tap your username at the top and tap the account you want.

On a computer, the same page says to click More at the bottom left, then Switch accounts, and log in to add an account or click one to switch.

How many accounts, and what stays separate

The same page says you can have up to ten accounts logged in at one time. If you have read five elsewhere, the page we read today says ten.

Adding accounts to the same Accounts Center lets a Facebook and an Instagram account share posts, log in to one another and sync a name and picture (Instagram Help). It doesn’t merge accounts. Each account keeps its own profile, followers and posts, and Meta’s help states that you can’t sync profile information from one Instagram profile to another (Meta Help Center).

One older feature is closed. If you once set up a single login for several accounts, it still works, but you can’t add new accounts to it, and an account you remove from it can’t be added back (Instagram Help).

Letting someone else post without the password

Shared access lets you invite people to your account so they can post, like and comment on it without your password. You decide whether each person can reach your inbox or your stories, you can see what they did, and you can remove someone’s access. An invitation stays open for 7 days (Instagram Help).

Two limits from that page: shared access is only for eligible accounts and not available to teens, and the number of people you can invite depends on a Meta One plan. Instagram lists up to 4, 8 or 30 people across its three plans. For a Page or a business portfolio, Meta’s partner access does the same job; how to manage multiple social media accounts compares the options across networks.

Posting to several accounts from one place

Instagram’s own sharing options, as its help describes them, send a post to Facebook and to Threads, not to a second Instagram account. Posting to two accounts at once takes a tool that connects both.

Instagram’s publishing API works for professional accounts only (Meta for Developers), so the accounts have to be Business or Creator accounts first. Mellow Hub asks for the same: A professional (Business or Creator) Instagram account. A personal account cannot publish through any API.

In Hub, a profile is a group of accounts for one brand, with its own channels, schedule, queue and history. Each profile holds one Instagram account; connecting a second offers to create a new profile. The three plans include 1, 3 and 10 profiles, and more can be added. In Compose you choose the exact accounts a post goes to. The profiles guide has the connection steps.

  1. Create a Hub account.
  2. Connect your accounts in Channels. Each network’s own sign-in screen opens, so Hub never sees a password. Bluesky is the exception: Hub connects it with your handle and an app password, which you can revoke in Bluesky’s settings.
  3. Write the post in Compose, choose the channels and add the media. Where one network’s limit is shorter, give that network its own caption. The composer can shorten it for you.
  4. Hub checks every network’s rules before anything is sent: caption length, media count and type, a required title or board. It lists every problem at once, naming the network.
  5. Publish now or pick a time. Each network succeeds or fails on its own and returns its own link.

Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo). One publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five. There are no automatic overage charges.

Questions people also ask

How many Instagram accounts can you log in to on one phone?

Up to ten at one time, according to Instagram’s help page for adding and switching accounts, read on 10 October 2026.

Can two people use one Instagram account without sharing the password?

Yes, through shared access: you invite people from your profile menu, they can post, like and comment as the account, and you can see their activity and remove their access. It’s for eligible accounts, not teens, and the number of invitees depends on a Meta One plan.

Can I post to two Instagram accounts at the same time?

Not from the Instagram app: its sharing options send a post to Facebook and Threads. A publishing tool that has both accounts connected can send one post to each. Both need to be professional accounts, since Instagram’s API publishes only to those.

Do I need a professional account for a second account?

No: Instagram’s page on adding and switching accounts mentions no account type. A professional (Business or Creator) account matters when you want a scheduling tool to publish, because Instagram’s API publishes only to professional accounts.
