How to see your LinkedIn analytics, and how to download them

Short answer

LinkedIn has three views. One post: click Me, then Posts & Activity, and open the post’s impressions or View analytics. All your posts and followers: Me, View Profile, then Show all analytics in the Analytics section. A Page: the Page admin view, then Analytics and a tab. Creator and Page analytics have an Export button, which gives a spreadsheet. Post analytics are private to you, and LinkedIn says the numbers are estimates.

One post

From LinkedIn’s page on viewing post analytics, on a computer:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Under Manage, click Posts & Activity.
  3. Choose the Post, Videos, Images, Articles or Newsletter tab.
  4. Click the number of impressions in the lower-left corner of the post, or View analytics in the lower-right.

The post analytics page then shows the parts that apply to that kind of post: discovery (in network and out of network), profile activity, video or article performance, social engagement, link engagement, post viewer demographics and, for a boosted post, ad spend and performance.

What the numbers mean

From LinkedIn’s definitions. LinkedIn notes that the numbers are estimates and may not be precise.

MetricLinkedIn’s meaning
ImpressionsThe number of times your post was shown on LinkedIn
Members reachedDistinct members and Pages that saw the post, an estimate that excludes repeat views
In network and out of networkThe share of impressions from members who follow or are connected to you, and from those who are not
Reactions, comments, repostsEach counted for members and Pages
Saves and sendsThe times members saved the post, or sent it to others on LinkedIn
Visits to linksClicks on an external link in the post, repeat clicks included

Three things to know. Post analytics are private to you. Your own views and engagements count towards your analytics. Demographic data is not available for content you share only with connections or in Groups, and appears only when enough unique viewers have seen the post.

How long LinkedIn keeps them

Per LinkedIn: discovery and social engagement counts are available for 1,000 days; Members reached for 400 days; demographic breakdowns for 180 days; article performance and newsletter analytics for two years.

All your posts: creator analytics

LinkedIn’s creator analytics page says all members have access. On a computer:

  1. Click Me, then View Profile.
  2. In the Analytics section, click Show all analytics.
  3. Click your post impressions for combined post analytics, or your total followers for audience analytics.

Inside, a date-range drop-down sets the period, and an Impressions or Engagements drop-down decides whether the graph and the top posts are shown by impressions or by engagements. Export in the upper right gives an .XLSX file. Audience analytics breaks followers down by job title, location, industry, seniority, company size and company. A custom date range is available only in the LinkedIn mobile app.

A Page

For a Page you administer, LinkedIn’s access page says: go to your Page admin view, click Analytics in the left menu and choose a tab: Content, Visitors, Followers, Search Appearances, Leads, Newsletters, Competitors or Employer Brand. Analytics are available for all Page admin roles.

To download, the export page gives these steps:

  1. Open the Page admin view and click Analytics in the left menu.
  2. Choose Content, Visitors, Followers or Competitors.
  3. Click Export in the upper right.
  4. Select a timeframe and click Export. The XLS file is available after download.

On the Page content analytics page LinkedIn defines an engagement rate: the ratio of interactions to impressions on your post, where interactions include clicks, reactions, comments and shares. It adds that metrics can take 48 hours to appear, except reactions and comments, which show in real time. For how that compares with other networks’ definitions, see what engagement rate means.

For software

LinkedIn offers an API program for Page admins to access Pages data, and its Community Management API covers Page statistics, share statistics and follower statistics. It is a vetted product: you apply, and move from a Development tier to a Standard tier.

LinkedIn numbers with Mellow Hub

Hub publishes to LinkedIn: Posts as your personal profile, or as a company page you administer. Its cabinet shows the counters a network reports for each published post; a number a network does not supply is shown as missing, not as zero. That is a different thing from LinkedIn’s analytics, which hold the demographics and the export described above.

Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo). One publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five. There are no automatic overage charges.
