How to post a video on TikTok, from a phone or a computer
Short answer
In the TikTok app, tap +, record or tap Upload to choose a video, edit it, add a description and hashtags, set who can view it, and tap Post. On a computer, sign in at tiktok.com, click Upload, select the video, fill in the details and post. A video uploaded on the web goes up whole, so trim it first or upload it in the app. TikTok’s web upload takes an MP4 or WebM of at least 720 × 1280.
On a phone, in the TikTok app
From TikTok’s Help Center, read on 10 October 2026:
- Tap the Add post + button at the bottom.
- Pick a maximum length for the video and tap the Record button. Or tap Upload to add a video from your device and go on to step 4.
- When you finish recording, tap the Continue check mark at the bottom.
- Add a filter, sound, text, stickers or effects, or use the advanced editing tools.
- Tap Next for the details: description, hashtags, tagging people, a location, a link and privacy settings. Your Story posts it to your Stories instead.
- Tap Post to publish, or Drafts to save it. Drafts are visible only to you, on your profile.
On a computer
On a computer, TikTok’s page for the web gives three clicks:
- Click Upload at the top.
- Click Select video to upload or Select file.
- Choose the video.
TikTok adds a note: when you upload on the web, the whole video is uploaded. To change its length, upload it in the app. TikTok Studio on the web, at tiktok.com/tiktokstudio, has an Upload section too. Per TikTok’s page on creator tools, a video uploaded there must be:
- an MP4 or WebM file,
- 720 × 1280 pixels or larger,
- up to 30 minutes long,
- under 10 GB.
After the upload you set the caption and the cover, who can watch the video, whether others can Duet, Stitch, make stickers from it or add it to their Stories, whether comments are allowed, and whether to run a copyright check on the sounds.
How long the video can be
TikTok’s pages disagree a little, so check the upload screen. The page on camera tools says videos recorded in TikTok can be up to 10 minutes and videos uploaded in TikTok up to 60 minutes (TikTok Help). The Studio page above says 30 minutes for a web upload. If you choose a sound before recording or uploading in the app, the sound’s length sets the video’s. Sizes and API limits are in TikTok video size and length.
Privacy, drafts and finding the post
- Privacy carries over. A new post keeps the privacy setting of your previous one. If the last was “Only you”, the next is too, until you change it.
- Only public videos show on the posts tab. If a new video isn’t on your profile, check its privacy setting. Private videos are behind the lock icon on your profile.
- Drafts are yours alone. A draft shows only to you on your profile, and you can finish it later.
- If the upload fails, TikTok suggests switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clearing the app’s video cache, restarting the app and the device, and updating TikTok.
Posting later, or from a tool
TikTok can schedule a video from a computer, 15 minutes to 10 days ahead, for Business accounts and accounts with 10,000 followers or more (TikTok Help). The details, and what scheduling tools can do beyond that, are in how to schedule TikTok posts.
Posting a TikTok with Mellow Hub
Mellow Hub sends one video, or up to 35 images as a photo post, to a personal or creator TikTok account through TikTok’s API, with a caption of up to 2,200 characters. It can also send the video to your TikTok inbox as a draft, to finish in the app and add a sound from TikTok’s library. TikTok reviews a video before showing it to anyone else and doesn’t tell Hub when that is done, so a TikTok shows as sent rather than live.
- Create a Hub account.
- Connect your accounts in Channels. Each network’s own sign-in screen opens, so Hub never sees a password. Bluesky is the exception: Hub connects it with your handle and an app password, which you can revoke in Bluesky’s settings.
- Write the post in Compose, choose the channels and add the media. Where one network’s limit is shorter, give that network its own caption. The composer can shorten it for you.
- Hub checks every network’s rules before anything is sent: caption length, media count and type, a required title or board. It lists every problem at once, naming the network.
- Publish now or pick a time. Each network succeeds or fails on its own and returns its own link.
Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo). One publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five. There are no automatic overage charges.
Questions people also ask
Can you post on TikTok from a PC?
Yes. Sign in at tiktok.com, click Upload at the top, choose the video and fill in the details. TikTok Studio on the web, at tiktok.com/tiktokstudio, has an upload section next to analytics and content management.
Why can’t I find the video I just posted?
Check its privacy setting. TikTok’s Help Center says only public videos show on the posts tab, and a new post keeps the setting of your previous one, so after a private post the next one is private too. Private videos are behind the lock icon on your profile.
Can I trim a video when I upload it from a computer?
No. TikTok says that a video uploaded on the web is uploaded whole. To change its length, trim it before uploading, or upload it in the TikTok app.
What file does TikTok’s web upload take?
An MP4 or WebM, at least 720 × 1280 pixels, up to 30 minutes and under 10 GB, according to TikTok’s page on TikTok Studio. At least 720 × 1280 is a vertical, 9:16 shape.
Can I save a TikTok as a draft?
Yes. In the app, tap Drafts instead of Post. Drafts are visible only to you, on your profile. Mellow Hub can also send a video to your TikTok inbox as a draft, to finish in the app.
