Can ChatGPT schedule social media posts?

Short answer

Not by itself. ChatGPT can write the posts, and its scheduled tasks can run a prompt or send you a reminder at a set time, but OpenAI’s help pages describe no way for it to publish to a social network on its own. A post is scheduled by something that holds it and sends it at the time: a network’s own scheduler or a scheduling tool. ChatGPT can drive such a tool when it is added as a custom MCP app, which OpenAI offers on Business, Enterprise and Edu plans on the web. Pro gets read and fetch access only.

What ChatGPT does by itself

It writes. The text of a post, a week of ideas or a shorter version for X is what ChatGPT does well on every plan: see prompts for social media posts.

It also has scheduled tasks. OpenAI describes them as one-time or recurring tasks that run at a chosen time, monitor for changes and respond to supported events, with a notification when they have something. That is ChatGPT doing work later, such as a daily summary or a reminder to post. It is not a post waiting in a queue to be sent to Instagram or LinkedIn. The OpenAI pages read on 10 October 2026 describe no built-in publishing to a social network.

What the help article gives for scheduled tasks:

PlanActive scheduled tasksNotes
Free and Go3On Free: a one-time task, or a recurring one no more than once a day, in flexible windows such as morning or night
Plus5Exact times and hourly schedules need an eligible paid plan
Business and Edu10
Pro and Enterprise15

Event-triggered tasks, which run in Work and respond to Gmail, Slack or GitHub activity, are for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu.

Where a scheduled post has to live

A post waits somewhere until its time, and that somewhere is not ChatGPT:

  • The network’s own scheduler. TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Pinterest each have one, with their own rules: TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Pinterest.
  • A scheduling tool. It connects your accounts through each network’s API, keeps the post and sends it at the time. This is the part an assistant can drive. It matters for Instagram: Meta’s publishing page describes publishing at once and gives no field for a publish time, so a tool has to hold the post.

So “ChatGPT schedules my posts” means ChatGPT telling a scheduling tool what to send and when.

Connecting ChatGPT to a scheduling tool

OpenAI’s help article on developer mode and MCP apps says:

What it says
Business, Enterprise and EduFull MCP support, including actions that modify or write, in beta, on ChatGPT on the web. Admins or owners enable developer mode, create the app and publish it to the workspace
ProDeveloper mode connects MCP apps with read and fetch permissions only, so ChatGPT can read but not publish
Mobile appsMCP apps are not available there: web only
Agent modeIt will not use custom apps
Deep researchIt can use custom apps for read and fetch actions, not write actions

The page says nothing about the Free, Go or Plus plans. It also says ChatGPT may ask you to confirm an action, depending on the app’s permissions and the action, and may block especially risky ones, and that you should connect only servers you trust.

The steps for adding Mellow Hub are in the ChatGPT guide.

What a scheduled task may not do

OpenAI’s page names Gmail, Slack and GitHub as the apps scheduled tasks use, and says an action that sends a message or changes external data may require approval, in which case the task pauses until you review it. It does not say that a task can call a custom MCP app. We have not tested it, so do not plan on a scheduled task creating a post. The scheduling is done by the tool: ChatGPT sends the post with a time, and the tool sends it then.

With Mellow Hub

With Hub added as an app, you can ask ChatGPT to write a post and schedule it. ChatGPT calls validate_post to check the post against each network’s rules, then create_post with a scheduledAt time. The post waits in Hub and goes out at that time whether or not ChatGPT or your browser is open. Hub publishes to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest and Facebook. A review-mode connection makes the post wait for your approval first, and a daily limit and an expiry bound what ChatGPT can create.

Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo). One publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five. There are no automatic overage charges.

What was tried in ChatGPT: on 2 October 2026 we added Hub in developer mode on the web, with a Bluesky account as the only channel. ChatGPT published a post, and scheduled a second one that Hub published at 03:01 UTC on 3 October with nobody present. Not tried in ChatGPT: networks other than Bluesky, video, and sharing the app with a whole workspace.

If your plan cannot add an app

  • Claude takes custom connectors on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, with one on Free: how to add one.
  • The network’s own scheduler needs no assistant. Paste ChatGPT’s text into it.
  • Hub’s composer schedules a post you paste in, to several networks at once.

Questions people also ask

Can ChatGPT post to Instagram directly?

OpenAI’s pages that we read describe no built-in way to post to Instagram. Instagram’s publishing API works only for professional accounts, so ChatGPT would have to drive a tool that holds your Instagram connection, such as a custom MCP app.

Can a ChatGPT scheduled task publish a post?

We have not verified it. OpenAI’s page says scheduled tasks use supported apps, naming Gmail, Slack and GitHub, and that an action that sends a message or changes external data may pause the task for your approval. It does not say that a task can call a custom MCP app.

Does ChatGPT’s agent mode post for me?

Not with a custom app. OpenAI’s help article on developer mode says agent mode will not use custom apps, and that deep research can use them only for read and fetch actions.

Can I schedule posts from the ChatGPT mobile app?

Not through a custom MCP app: OpenAI’s help article says MCP apps are not available on mobile. Scheduled tasks can be created in supported mobile apps, but they run ChatGPT’s own work, not a post held for a network.

Is there a ChatGPT integration for LinkedIn?

Through a custom MCP app you add yourself, yes: the LinkedIn guide covers posting to a profile or company page from ChatGPT or Claude through Mellow Hub.
