Can you schedule an Instagram Story with a link?

Short answer

Yes, in Meta Business Suite on a computer. Click Create story, add the media, click Add link and enter the URL, then choose Schedule and a time. In the Instagram app the link is a Link sticker, and Instagram’s pages disagree on whether the app schedules Stories at all. A tool that publishes through Instagram’s API can schedule a Story but can’t add a link, poll or location sticker.

In Meta Business Suite

From Meta’s page on Stories, read on 11 October 2026:

  1. Open Meta Business Suite and click Create story.
  2. Under Post to, choose your Instagram profile, a Facebook Page or both.
  3. Add up to 10 photos or videos. For each one, Edit opens the tools for text, mentions, stickers and Add link, which Meta describes as a URL viewers can visit when they swipe up.
  4. Under Scheduling options, choose Schedule and set the date and time, then click Schedule.

To change it later, open Content, then Stories, then Scheduled, and use the ... icon to publish, reschedule or delete the Story. You need full control of the account, or content permission for it.

Meta’s page doesn’t say that Add link produces the same Link sticker the app does, or how it looks to viewers, and its “swipe up” wording differs from Instagram’s own, where people tap the sticker.

In the Instagram app

Instagram’s guide to Stories says to open the sticker tray, tap Link and paste the URL, and that the sticker text can be changed, for example to “shop the look”. Anyone watching can tap it. The Help Center’s page on stickers lists Link among those you add with Stickers at the top of the editor.

On who may use it, Instagram’s October 2021 announcement says links in Stories were opened to all accounts, where before they needed verification or a follower threshold. It adds that new accounts, and accounts that repeatedly break the Community Guidelines, do not get the Link sticker. That page is nearly five years old. The Help Center page lists Link among the stickers and says only that not all stickers are available to everyone.

Does the app schedule Stories?

Instagram’s pages say two things:

  • The 2026 guide on About Instagram says to create the Story, tap the three dots before sharing, tap Schedule, choose a date and time and confirm. It adds that scheduling is available to accounts that meet Instagram’s eligibility requirements, and that the path may change as the app updates.
  • The Help Center says you can schedule reels, photos and carousel posts from the app, and its page on sharing a Story lists no schedule step.

We can’t say which is right for your account. If the three dots show Schedule on your Story, that settles it for you. No page we read says whether a Story scheduled in the app keeps its Link sticker; schedule a test a few minutes ahead and look at it when it goes live.

Through the API

Scheduling tools publish through Instagram’s API, and Meta’s IG User media reference says publishing stickers, namely link, poll and location, is not supported. Mentioning a user without a sticker is. So a Story scheduled by a tool goes out as a picture or video, with no tappable link. Stories take a JPEG image up to 8 MB, or a video of 3 to 60 seconds up to 100 MB, and expire after 24 hours.

Scheduling Stories with Mellow Hub

Hub publishes Stories through the API, so it can’t add a link sticker. Stories take exactly one item. Reels take one video. A Story is one photo or one video, and Hub refuses a post with more than one item for a Story before sending anything. If a Story needs a link, build and schedule it in Meta Business Suite, as above. For the sizes, see Instagram Story size; for the full schedule-a-Story steps, how to schedule an Instagram Story.

The first 3 posts are free, however many networks each one goes to, and need no card. After that Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo), where one publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five toward it. There are no automatic overage charges.

That record is kept per network, not per format, and we have not singled out a scheduled Story in it.

Questions people also ask

Does every account get the Link sticker?

Instagram’s October 2021 announcement opened it to all accounts, with two exceptions: new accounts, and accounts that repeatedly share content that breaks the Community Guidelines. The Help Center page on stickers lists Link and says that not all stickers are available to everyone.

Can I add a link to a Story scheduled in Meta Business Suite?

Yes. In the story editor, click Add link for each photo or video. Meta describes it as a URL viewers can visit when they swipe up.

Can I schedule a Story in the Instagram app?

Instagram’s 2026 guide to Stories says yes, with Schedule under the three dots, for eligible accounts. The Help Center’s pages on scheduling and on sharing a Story don’t mention Stories. Check the three dots on your own Story.

Can a scheduling tool add a link sticker to a Story?

Not through Instagram’s API, which tools use: Meta’s reference says link, poll and location stickers aren’t supported. Mentions without a sticker are.

How long does a scheduled Story stay up?

A Story lasts 24 hours from the moment it goes live, per Instagram’s guide, and then moves to your Stories Archive.
