Mellow Hub

What size should a profile picture be on each social network?

Short answer

No single size is published for every network. X recommends 400 × 400 pixels, LinkedIn takes 400 × 400 up to 7680 × 4320 at up to 8 MB, a Facebook Page asks for 320 × 320 and YouTube renders a channel’s picture at 98 × 98. TikTok asks only for at least 20 × 20. Instagram, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky publish no pixel size on the pages we read. A 400 × 400 square under 2 MB is inside every range that is published.

Every network’s own figure

“None published” means the page we read gives no number. Guides quote sizes for these networks; we have not repeated them.

One picture for every network

A 400 × 400 square, JPEG or PNG and under 2 MB, is inside every figure above: it is X’s recommended size, LinkedIn’s minimum, larger than Facebook’s 320 × 320, far above YouTube’s 98 × 98 and TikTok’s 20 × 20, and under X’s 2 MB limit. Facebook crops to a circle and YouTube says a square or round image is best, so keep the face or the logo in the middle, away from the corners.

Header and banner images

Where a profile has a banner, the networks publish more:

  • X asks for 1500 × 500 and says 60 pixels at the top and bottom may be cropped on some screens (X Help).
  • YouTube asks for at least 2048 × 1152 at 16:9, recommends 2560 × 1440, up to 6 MB, with a safe area for text and logos of 1235 × 338 at the minimum size (YouTube Help).
  • LinkedIn and Facebook covers are on the LinkedIn image sizes and social media image sizes pages.

Where Mellow Hub fits

Mellow Hub publishes posts. It doesn’t change a profile picture or a bio; those are set in each network’s own settings. For the pictures in your posts, the free image resizer crops one picture to the post, story and cover sizes of each network.

Hub is paid: plans start at $19 a month (Solo), after a 7-day trial with a card on file that costs nothing if you cancel before it ends, and a monthly plan's first month is 20% off. Publishing is unlimited on every plan, under a fair-use ceiling that stops automated floods (900 publications a month on Solo). One publication is one post on one account, so a post sent to five networks counts as five. There are no automatic overage charges.
