What size is an X header, and what part of it is seen?
X recommends 1500 × 500 pixels for a header photo, as a JPG, GIF or PNG. Even at that size, X says, 60 pixels on the top and bottom could be cropped, depending on the monitor and the browser. So the part to rely on is the middle band, 1500 × 380. The maker cuts your picture to 1500 × 500 and draws that band over it while you place the picture.

Placing the picture
- Keep words inside the band. A line of text at the very top or bottom is the first thing lost.
- Check where the profile photo falls. X’s help does not say where it sits over the header; look at your profile after uploading.
- Start with a wide picture. One at least 1500 pixels across is only cut; a narrower one is enlarged and looks soft.
Questions
What size is an X header?
X recommends 1500 × 500 pixels for a header photo, which it also calls a banner. It takes JPG, GIF or PNG files and does not support animated GIFs for header images.
Why is part of my X header cut off?
X’s help says that a header with the recommended dimensions can still lose part of itself because of how it is displayed on different monitor sizes and in different browsers: 60 pixels on the top and bottom could be cropped. That leaves a band of 1500 × 380 that is seen everywhere.
Where does the profile photo cover the header?
X’s help does not say. Look at your profile on a phone and on a computer after you upload, and move the picture if the profile photo covers something that matters.
Why is my header blurry?
Because the part of your picture that fills the header has fewer than 1500 pixels across, and it is enlarged to fit. The maker says by how much; a wider picture, or zooming out, fixes it.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The picture stays in this page and the header is cut in your browser; the file is made on your own device.
The profile is set; now the posts
Mellow Hub does not change a header or a profile photo: those are set in X’s own settings. What it does is send one post to X and to the other networks you connect, now or at a time you choose, checking each network’s rules first. For the profile photo there is the profile picture cropper.
