The numbers behind every network: sizes, lengths, character counts and formats, each read from the network’s own page on the day shown.
- What size should images be on each social network?Instagram 1080 wide up to 1080 × 1440, Stories and Reels 1080 × 1920, YouTube thumbnails 3840 × 2160, Pinterest 1000 × 1500. From each network’s own pages.
- What size should a Pinterest Pin be?1000 × 1500 pixels at 2:3, as Pinterest recommends; taller Pins may be cut off. Images up to 20 MB, video Pins 9:16 from 4 seconds to 5 minutes.
- What size is a YouTube thumbnail?YouTube now asks for 3840×2160 at 16:9, at least 640 px wide, JPG or PNG, up to 50 MB from a computer and 2 MB from a phone. Shorts: 2160×3840.
- How long can a YouTube Short be?Up to 3 minutes, square or vertical, for Shorts uploaded since 15 October 2024. Over 1 minute, a Content ID claim blocks the Short. Sizes, limits and uploading.
- What size is an Instagram post in 2026?1080 px wide, from 1.91:1 (1080×566) to 3:4 (1080×1440). The grid shows 3:4; Reels are 9:16. Sizes for posts, carousels and Reels.
- How many hashtags can you use on Instagram?Five. Since December 2025 Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags in a post or reel, down from 30; with more, the post won’t go through. What to do instead.
- How long can an Instagram caption be?2,200 characters, per Instagram’s API documentation, with no more than 5 hashtags. How it is counted, where the caption folds, and a free counter.
- How long can an Instagram Reel be?Up to 20 minutes in the app, though Reels over 3 minutes aren’t recommended to new audiences. Through the API, 3 seconds to 15 minutes. Sizes and covers too.
- What size and length can a TikTok video be?Upload up to 60 minutes in the app, 30 minutes and 10 GB on the web; record up to 10. At least 720×1280, vertical. Through the API, up to 10 minutes.
- What is the character limit on X (Twitter)?280 characters, weighted: every link counts 23, an emoji or a Chinese, Japanese or Korean character 2. X Premium allows 25,000. Count a post for free.
- What is the character limit on Threads?500 characters, and Threads counts an emoji as its UTF-8 bytes, so one can take 4. Up to 5 links; text attachments hold 10,000 characters.
- What is the character limit on Bluesky?300 characters, counted as graphemes, so an emoji is one. Up to 10 photos in the app, videos up to 10 minutes and 300 MB. With a free counter.
- What is the character limit for a LinkedIn post?3,000 characters, per LinkedIn’s help, spaces and line breaks included. Where the post folds behind “…more”, how bold text counts, and photos and video.
- What size are LinkedIn images: posts, banners and covers?Profile banner 1584×396, company page cover 1512×256, logo 400×400, post photos 1080 wide from 3:1 to 4:5, link images 1200×627. From LinkedIn’s own help.
- What is the character limit on Facebook?Meta publishes no character limit for a Facebook post, comment or Page name. The 63,206 figure is unconfirmed; the numbers Meta prints are for ad text.
- What size is an Instagram Story?1080 × 1920 at 9:16, as Meta recommends; Instagram’s help gives no pixel size. A video runs 60 seconds a clip. Safe zone, text size and API limits.
- What aspect ratio works for Reels, TikTok and Shorts?Make it 9:16, 1080 × 1920: Reels take 1.91:1 to 9:16, Shorts any square or vertical shape, and TikTok’s ad specs recommend 9:16. What each network says.
- What are the character limits on each social network?Posts, titles and bios on nine networks, each figure from the network’s own page and the day it was read; where a network gives no number, the table says so.
- What size should a profile picture be on each social network?X asks for 400×400, LinkedIn at least 400×400, a Facebook Page 320×320, YouTube shows 98×98. Instagram, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky publish no size.
- What is the character limit for a TikTok caption?TikTok’s help gives no caption limit. Its API takes 2,200 characters for a video and 4,000 for a photo post’s description. Ad captions, bio and name too.
- What is the character limit for a YouTube description?A YouTube description holds 5,000 characters, but the API counts 5000 bytes, so emoji and non-Latin text take more. No < or >. Hashtags and chapters too.
- What is the character limit for a YouTube title?A YouTube video title can be 100 characters, with no < or >. YouTube says viewers may see only part of it, so lead with the important words.
