Put yourself in a YouTube thumbnail: your face in a thumbnail you like

Remake a YouTube thumbnail you like with your own face in it: its layout and style kept, its logos and people replaced. 10 credits a version.

How do you put your face in a YouTube thumbnail?

In Mellow Hub’s Creative Studio, choose Put yourself in a thumbnail, give it a thumbnail you like — an upload, or the link of the YouTube video it belongs to — and your saved face. The Studio redraws it with you in it: it keeps the source’s composition, framing, colours, light and type style, replaces every person in it with you, removes logos, watermarks, channel names and brand marks, and swaps its words for yours (in quotation marks) or for new words of the same length and tone. Each version costs 10 credits; you can ask for 1 to 3 at once. No model is trained on your face.

What it looks like

A fictional man in a mustard hoodie taking a selfie
The saved face: a fictional person, made with the same image model.
The same man pointing at his head under a ring of light, with the words MIND BLOWN!
That face in a thumbnail in the Mind blown look.
The same thumbnail with the background changed to a purple night sky full of stars
Then one sentence: “only the background to a deep purple night sky full of stars”.

Made by the Studio in production on 7 October 2026 with a saved face and a look, 10 credits each; copies at 640 pixels, nothing retouched. Remaking a thumbnail from YouTube works the same way, with that thumbnail in place of the look.

Step by step

  1. Save your face once in Creative Studio: Your face, then add a clear photo of yourself (up to 12 per profile).
  2. Open Thumbnails and choose Put yourself in a thumbnail.
  3. Give it the thumbnail to remake: upload the picture, or paste the YouTube link of the video it belongs to.
  4. Choose who goes in: your saved face, or a short description of a person.
  5. Write anything else to change, with your own headline in quotation marks, choose 1 to 3 versions and create.
  6. Read the review, change one thing with a sentence if needed, then download it or use it as a video’s cover.

A YouTube link is read by the video’s id, and the thumbnail is fetched from YouTube’s own image server and kept as a private picture in your profile; the same link is the same picture next time. Up to 2 saved faces can go into one thumbnail.

Which photo of your face works best

  • Large and clear. Your face filling much of the photo, in good light, with nothing over it — no sunglasses, no hand, no hair across the eyes.
  • Looking at the camera. A thumbnail usually puts the face toward the viewer; a photo that does the same gives the model the most to work from.
  • Like you on camera. The same hair and glasses as in your videos, so viewers recognise you from the thumbnail.
  • More than one, if you like. Save a few — smiling, serious, surprised — and pick the one that fits the thumbnail.

Whose thumbnail, whose face

Remaking a thumbnail you admire is a way to borrow its composition and energy, not its identity: the Studio removes the other channel’s logos, watermarks and name and replaces every person with you, and the words become yours. Keep the promise honest too — YouTube asks for thumbnails that match the video. Use your own face, or a person who has agreed; for anyone else, describe a fictional character instead of uploading a photo.

From an AI agent

Over Mellow Hub’s MCP server the same is three tools: studio_import brings in the thumbnail (a YouTube link or an uploaded file) as a private picture, studio_faces saves your face, and studio_thumbnail_remix makes the versions, 10 credits each, within the daily credit ceiling of the key you approved. It publishes nothing. See YouTube MCP.

Try it with your face

The account is free; each version takes 10 credits, and the review takes none.

Questions

Is this a face swap?

Not of anybody but you. The Studio redraws the thumbnail with you as the person in it: the source’s composition, framing, colours, light and lettering are kept, every person in it is replaced by you, and its logos, watermarks and channel names are removed. It is not a tool for putting other people’s faces anywhere.

Do I need to train a model on my face?

No. Your saved photo goes to the image model next to the thumbnail and the instruction, every time you use it. Nothing is trained, and nothing is made from your face until you ask for a thumbnail.

Where is my face kept?

As a private image in your Mellow Hub profile, among at most 12 saved faces. Removing a face takes it off the list; the image stays private to the profile and goes with the account when the account is deleted.

Can I put a friend or a guest in?

The feature is built for your own face. Put another person in only with their permission, and say in your video who they are; or describe a fictional person instead of using a photo.

How much does it cost?

10 credits a version, 1 to 3 versions per request; a change afterwards is 10 more. Importing a YouTube thumbnail, saving faces and the review cost no credits.
