How do you make a seamless photo carousel on TikTok?
Take one wide picture, cut it into equal slides side by side, and post them in order as one photo post: in the TikTok app tap +, then Photo, then Upload, and choose the slides in their numbered order. A photo post holds up to 35 photos. TikTok’s Help Center gives no pixel size for them; its API takes JPEG or WebP up to 1080p and 20 MB each. At 9:16 each slide is 1080 × 1920, so three slides come from a 3240 × 1920 picture. The splitter does the cutting and the numbering, and shows the swipe before you post.
Picture sizes for 2 to 5 slides
| Slides | 9:16 (1080 × 1920) | 4:5 (1080 × 1350) | 1:1 (1080 × 1080) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 2160 × 1920 | 2160 × 1350 | 2160 × 1080 |
| 3 | 3240 × 1920 | 3240 × 1350 | 3240 × 1080 |
| 4 | 4320 × 1920 | 4320 × 1350 | 4320 × 1080 |
| 5 | 5400 × 1920 | 5400 × 1350 | 5400 × 1080 |
These are the smallest pictures that give sharp slides; a larger picture in the same shape works too. Designing across the seams
- Keep faces and words off the cuts. Anything crossing a seam is split between two slides, and people rarely see both halves at once.
- One shape for every slide. The slides meet at their edges only when all of them are cut the same.
- Let the first slide stand alone. It is the one people see before they swipe.
- Finish on the last slide. End the picture there, or put the one sentence you want remembered.
Cutting for Instagram? Use the Instagram carousel splitter, which knows its shapes and the 10 items its API takes. A long screenshot instead of a wide picture? The long image splitter cuts top to bottom.
Questions
How many photos can a TikTok photo post have?
Up to 35, according to TikTok’s Help Center. The splitter cuts from 2 to 35 slides.
What size should the slides of a TikTok carousel be?
TikTok’s Help Center gives no pixel size for photo posts. Its API, which posting tools use, takes JPEG or WebP pictures up to 1080p and 20 MB each. The splitter makes JPG slides 1080 pixels wide: 1080 × 1920 at 9:16, the shape of an upright phone screen, or 1080 × 1350 at 4:5 when the same slides are going to Instagram too.
Why is there a jump between my slides?
A seamless carousel needs every slide to be the same shape and in the right order. Choose the files in the numbered order, and do not crop one of them on its own in TikTok’s editor: a slide cut differently from its neighbours no longer meets them at the edge.
Can I post a photo carousel from a computer?
TikTok’s Help Center describes photo posts in the app: tap +, Photo, then Upload. Its steps for a web browser are for video. From a computer, a photo post goes through a tool that uses TikTok’s API.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The picture stays in this page and the slides are cut in your browser; the ZIP is made on your own device.
Post the same slides to TikTok and Instagram at once
Mellow Hub sends a photo post of up to 35 pictures to a personal or creator TikTok account through TikTok’s API, directly or to your TikTok inbox as a draft, and can send the same slides to Instagram, Threads and the other networks you connect. It checks each network’s rules before anything is sent: Instagram’s API takes 10 items in one post and no shape taller than 4:5. More in how to make a carousel post on TikTok.
