How do you put your name on a photo?
Draw it on, once, in a place and at a size that reads without getting in the way, and do the same on every photo you post. The tool does that for up to twenty photos at a time: one line of text, in one of nine places, sized by each photo’s shorter side and with a soft shadow so it holds over light and dark. It is a signature, not a lock: it tells people whose the photo is, and it can be cropped off.
Making it read
- Use the name people can search for. A handle with its @, or the name on your profile.
- Keep it small. Start at three to five percent of the photo’s shorter side and look at it on a phone: readable, and not the first thing seen.
- Same place every time. People learn where to look.
- Check the busiest photo. If the text is lost there, change the corner or the colour for the whole set.
Questions
How do I add a watermark to several photos at once?
Choose the photos, type your handle or name, and pick where it goes, how large and how strong. Every photo gets the same text in the same place, sized by the photo’s shorter side so it looks the same on a large photo and a small one. Download them together.
Does a watermark stop people using my photos?
No. A watermark in a corner can be cropped off, and one across the middle spoils the photo for everyone, you included. What it does is carry your name along when a photo is reposted as it is, so the people who see it can find you.
Where should the watermark go?
Where it can be read without being the first thing seen: a corner, at a small size, is the usual choice. If the corner of your photo is busy, move the text to a quieter one, or switch between white and black; the text carries a soft shadow of the opposite tone so it stays readable over light and dark.
Do the photos lose quality?
They keep their own size and are saved as JPGs at high quality. A photo over 16 megapixels is made that size first, so that a phone’s browser can draw it.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The photos stay in this page and the text is drawn in your browser; the files are made on your own device.
Post the photos to every network at once
Mellow Hub takes the photos from here into one post and sends it to the networks you connect, now or at a time you choose, with each network’s own caption where you want one. It checks each network’s rules for a post before anything is sent. Photos of different shapes for one carousel? Make them one shape in the carousel photo resizer.
